After two tries at different times and many days this time, researching, and trying again, I have found out how to get a VPN server running on Ubuntu Server 10.04 behind a NAT router using Pre-Shared Keys. First of all, 99% of the instructions here, will get you started.

Upcoming maintenance

I have, on my geekery schedule, a plan to convert my growing collections of
sites to multi-site installs (where applicable). This makes the inevitable
security and feature upgrades easier. Therefore, there will be a static

Flock is way too cool
jamesp — Tue, 08/05/2008 - 20:32
Sorry for the site SPAM, but I must say that the FLOCK browser is way too cool. It's based on top of Firefox (I'm using the Beta which is based on Firefox 3), but with lots of cool functionality to make lots of social sites "just work". I'm able to blog to my site by clicking one button. I can also easily get pictures into flickr, twitter, catch up with folks on facebook, and on and on. I would recommend it also because it is cross platform. Get it here

The New Hobby
jamesp — Mon, 08/04/2008 - 19:27
With such a stunning subject in my 6 week old daughter, I have gotten into photography. I have setup shop on Picasa and Flickr, but will probably use the latter more than the former. I can be found here. I resisted spinning up a new gallery on this site or gasp another new site. Comments are welcome over there as I am learning. I must admit that most of my shots are of my daughter, and she has her own site where said shots will be protected by requiring a username and password.
James Multimedia Tips

This book is a collection of recipes and tips I've come across as I've done my hobby of audio-video conversion. I have a NAS that I refer to as the Purl Media Cache that I store archived copies of the DVDs and CDs I bought for backup and easy access.
My preferred method of converting, if at all possible, is to use Linux commandline so that I can easily fire it off remotely (from the laptop in the TV room or over the Internet) using the screen command. Also, using command line makes it easy to fashion a batch of conversions using for loops.
